La Semaine de la Critique carries on its singular mission: to reach out to ever-broader audiences by favouring screen education initiatives dedicated to the young public. La Semaine organises several year-round educational activities for high school students, apprentices and secondary school pupils from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region and Île-de-France, for German and French high schools from other regions in France.
The programme includes: screenings of selected short and feature films, meetings with film critics and members of the selection committees of La Semaine de la Critique, film analysis, workshops on how to write a film review and an introduction to film criticism.
The Franco-German Youth Office
In collaboration with The Franco-German Youth Office (FGYO), La Semaine de la Critique puts up a training workshop on film criticism. This three-day workshop is dedicated to twenty French and German high school pupils from underprivileged areas.
The purpose of the workshop is to encourage the exchange and stimulate intercultural dynamics between France and Germany, to participate to the cultural democratization by broadening the target audiences, widening training on film criticism and screen education to include the young.
The Île-de-France Region
In the Île-de France Region, high school pupils are first of all made aware of the missions of La Semaine de la Critique. Early June, they all meet up for the rerun of the selection hosted at La Cinémathèque française. For a whole day, they are introduced to cinema and film criticism through the screening of a film of the year, followed by a film review-writing workshop, chaperoned by professional film critics.
Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region
Steadfastly committed to cinema-lovers, La Semaine de la Critique’s priorities also include the public at large. Over the past years and in collaboration with the association Cinéma du Sud, La Semaine de la Critique carries on its screen education mission for school audiences, by welcoming pupils from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region to its screenings during the festival.
DRAC Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur
A first day of training is organised before the festival, including an introduction to film criticism by a film critic and journalist, the screening of a film and a writing workshop. During the festival, the pupils attend meetings with professional film critics, watch a film from La Semaine’s selection and are invited to express themselves on the film and more generally on the impact of film criticism.
The General Council of les Alpes-Maritimes
A first meeting takes place at the beginning of the year with the purpose of setting the bases for accurate watching and analysing. During the festival, the secondary school pupils and high school students are invited to discover the short and feature film selection of La Semaine and are taught the scope and importance of film criticism.
