7th HOHOA Award
Best screenplay for a short film in French Overseas Territories
Organized by RFO and Invariance Noire

The President of the jury of the seventh Hohoa edition is Jacques Martial, actor, Director and President of la Grande Halle de la Villette.
This Award is born from the will to increase the – too weak – vision of the Overseas Territories’ cinema on a national and international level.
The contest is open to any native of the French Overseas Territories with screenplays reflecting the specificities of men and women of these regions.
Among the sixty screenplays we received this year, 10 had been selected and presented to a jury formed of eleven members.
The Hohoa Prize will be awarded to the winners on Tuesday, May 19th 2009, within the context of the International Critics’ Week at the Cannes film festival.
Each year films previously awarded are on screen.
RFO awards a 3000 € Prize and undertakes to co-produce and broadcast the films produced from the Hohoa awarded screenplays.
RFO and Invariance Noire invite the winners in Cannes.

During the 2009 ceremony, Gary Pierre-Victor‘s Negropolitain (3rd Hohoa award 2007) will be screened.

Carl, a young Afro-Carribean is about to start his first day as a policeman. The captain pairs him up with Alain, an Afro-Carribean in his fifties who has quite a temper and is narrow-minded. They have a hard time communicating. With a different vision of the world, they will have to learn to work together and to overcome the daily challenges of what it means to be a Black policeman in France today.

Constant, une petite soixantaine est en train de rendre son âme. Matériellement il a réussi sa vie, grâce à la force de son caractère qui ne laissait pas beaucoup de place à autrui. Le prêtre avant de lui donner l'extrême onction prononce de façon fortuite le nom d'Hubert Plancy lui aussi mal en point. Miracle ! Au prononcé de nom, Constant se lève d'entre les mourants avec une seule idée en tête : voir crever avant lui cet Hubert Plancy !
