“You’ve got to finish it!” This order from a father to his son will long resonate in the head of the spectator of Boy as it will in the head of the boy it is addressed to; a lonely kid who must execute a rite of passage towards a somehow remote adulthood. The story told to Topaz Adizes by one of his friends gives him an opportunity to wonder about this “perpetual tragedy” handed down from father to son without any attempt to question it or to “learn from our mistakes”, as the director shows it, in three other short fiction films presented in many festivals and one full-length documentary on American identity through out the world.
