“The Art of Leaping” could be Julia Ducournau’s motto. After studying modern literature on the benches of Lycée Henri IV and the Sorbonne, she neglects the literary approach of the text and joins, in 2004, the script department of the Fémis. Since graduation in 2008, she has been upsetting established cinematic families by working with Edouard Baer as well as Damien Odoul. In Junior she confronts teenage tale with fantasy story, she summons up the opposite influences of Pialat and Cronenberg thus affirming that “Becoming a girl, what a fucking adventure”
