Portrait
L’amour-propre by Francis Gavelle
I felt like portraying an actor, titillating this narcissistic flaw that makes him terribly dependant on others’ opinion. I felt like exploring and stirring contradictory feelings; feverish, ridiculous, pathetic. Like a wild psychoanalysis. I also wanted to show the dialectic of self-esteem, which sometimes lead to self-hatred and disgust. So I thought that a one-man-show actor, alone onstage, alone on tour, could live this derealization in a particularly violent way.
