Sometimes a film's essence, be it short or feature, can rest on fairly little: a desire to film ordinary people and their daily lives, without a particularly tight script or funding to justify the filming process. For Jonas Carpignagno, such is the essence of A Ciambra, a surprising and soulful film. Indeed, it is full of mishaps and urgency, as it was shot very quickly after a feature film project was delayed and following a chance meeting with a family of Gypsies. The director's simple wish to watch them, to talk to them about growing up pushed him to make a film out of if, in total spontaneity, every single image reflecting a very realistic, personal and intimate filmic approach, far from the illusions and effects of cinema.
